(Isaiah 40:28) Have you not known? Have you not heard? The everlasting God, the Lord, The Creator of the ends of the earth, Neither faints nor is weary. His understanding is unsearchable.
(1 Samuel 9:3,5-6,15-20,23-24,27-10:1) Now the donkeys of Kish, Saul’s father, were lost. And Kish said to his son Saul, “Please take one of the servants with you, and arise, go and look for the donkeys.” When they had come to the land of Zuph, Saul said to his servant who was with him, “Come, let us return, lest my father cease caring about the donkeys and become worried about us.” And he said to him, “Look now, there is in this city a man of God, and he is an honorable man; all that he says surely comes to pass. So let us go there; perhaps he can show us the way that we should go.” Now the Lord had told Samuel in his ear the day before Saul came, saying, “Tomorrow about this time I will send you a man from the land of Benjamin, and you shall anoint him commander over My people Israel, that he may save My people from the hand of the Philistines; for I have looked upon My people, because their cry has come to Me.” So when Samuel saw Saul, the Lord said to him, “There he is, the man of whom I spoke to you. This one shall reign over My people.” Then Saul drew near to Samuel in the gate, and said, “Please tell me, where is the seer’s house?” Samuel answered Saul and said, “I am the seer. Go up before me to the high place, for you shall eat with me today; and tomorrow I will let you go and will tell you all that is in your heart. But as for your donkeys that were lost three days ago, do not be anxious about them, for they have been found. And on whom is all the desire of Israel? Is it not on you and on all your father’s house?” And Samuel said to the cook, “Bring the portion which I gave you, of which I said to you, ‘Set it apart.’” So the cook took up the thigh with its upper part and set it before Saul. And Samuel said, “Here it is, what was kept back. It was set apart for you. Eat; for until this time it has been kept for you, since I said I invited the people.” So Saul ate with Samuel that day. As they were going down to the outskirts of the city, Samuel said to Saul, “Tell the servant to go on ahead of us.” And he went on. “But you stand here awhile, that I may announce to you the word of God.” Then Samuel took a flask of oil and poured it on his head, and kissed him and said: “ Is it not because the Lord has anointed you commander over His inheritance?
Today the topic of our discussion is ‘serendipity’. Seren, what ?
Where did you find that in the bible ?
What is serendipity ?
It means an unplanned, fortuitous discovery.
the occurrence and development of events by chance in a happy or beneficial way.
It is the faculty or phenomenon of finding valuable or agreeable things not sought for;
(For example, you decided to wash your clothes, because they are dirty and because you had a bit of time in your hands. Common sense dictates you empty the pockets of the clothes to be washed before commencing the wash. Meanwhile, you are broke! As you went through the pockets, suddenly, you find the largest denomination of currency in one the pockets. It said to be serendipitous – you were not looking for it, but found something pleasant).
In our main scriptural story, Saul was prompted to go and look for his father’s missing donkey (ass). As the story unfolds; somehow, the focus shifted from the missing donkey to him. In his wildest dream, I am confident he never planned or bargained for what was to happen or take place, thereafter – to be King over Israel (God’s people) !
Another aspect often overlooked in this story, is that God – the unseen conductor -caused the donkeys to go missing in order to bring Saul in contact with Samuel for the anointing service.
Sometimes in life, we may be traveling on a road or pursing a task or seem to be minding our own business only to be interrupted by God and his plan. At the onset, it doesn’t appear to appeal but the end will speak for itself – joy cometh in the morning.
There’s someone, a subscriber to ‘WISDOM FOR TODAY’ something good, pleasant is coming your way! You didn’t plan or envisage it, it just fell on your lap – I mean it had your name written on it.
Let’s read this extract together – from our main scripture: (And Samuel said to the cook, “Bring the portion which I gave you, of which I said to you, ‘Set it apart.’” So the cook took up the thigh with its upper part and set it before Saul. And Samuel said, “Here it is, what was kept back. It was set apart for you).
There may be someone out there saying this is all fables well, I got good news for you. It only needs to happen to you once and then you are hooked for life !
Using the woman at the well in (John 4:7-26) to explain my point.
After series of failed marriages, the current one doesn’t seem to be working. The scene was set for a marvellous story.
Under normal circumstances if you’ve every lived a rural setting, women mostly fetch water together in groups. But in view of her personal predicament, as she will by now be the headline gossip topic of the village. She chose to fetch water alone at odd times- to avoid embarrassment, insults and abuses. Suddenly she met this handsome looking chap called – Jesus, at the well.
By the opening line of their conversation she must have thought, here we go again! Another one of them (men) has come to chase me (or in my language, toast her – throw her a line; hey girl….).
Soon, she not only got drawn into their conversation, and by this she got a solution to her life’s problems, in the end became an evangelist. An unexpected beautiful thing happened to her. She found true joy ! No wonder she exclaimed “come and see a man”. Serendipity happened to her.
(Isaiah 60:15-16) Whereas you have been forsaken and hated, So that no one went through you, I will make you an eternal excellence, A joy of many generations. You shall drink the milk of the Gentiles, And milk the breast of kings; You shall know that I, the Lord, am your Savior And your Redeemer, the Mighty One of Jacob.
Friend, the best is yet to come !
May God cause Heaven and earth to release and grant you that which has been kept back for you.
May God set a table before you with choice glory, honour, wonders and a beautiful testimony- that you never planned for.
I pray from this day, that your steps will be ordered by God. You will not fail no falter, Heaven will single you out of a crowd in Jesus name (Amen).
“THE SOVEREIGNTY OF GOD”
# The steps of a good (righteous) man are ordered by the Lord, And He delights in his way (Psalm 37:23).
Good morning my family of friends.
