Migration & migrants through Libya
WISDOM FOR TODAY:
(Ecclesiastes 5:10) He who loves silver will not be satisfied with silver; Nor he who loves abundance, with increase. This also is vanity.
(1 Timothy 6:6-10) Now godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out. And having food and clothing, with these we shall be content. But those who desire to be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and harmful lusts which drown men in destruction and perdition. For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil, for which some have strayed from the faith in their greediness, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.
Some of you might deem today’s topic -political or controversial. For me, each publication of “WISDOM FOR TODAY” has never been about point scoring, forcing my opinion on subscribers but to help use scriptures (relevance) to analyse current issues.
Today topic: “Migration & migrants through Libya”
It is painfully sad, to the point shedding tears whenever I switch on the television only to see my fellow humans carted on dinghy boats across the Mediterranean Sea in treacherous chaotic maritime conditions, I shudder. As if that wasn’t bad enough, when I hear the tales of what fellow Africans and nationals do to each other in a bid to get a better life in Europe it makes me wonder where’s the world going ?
It is a shameful fact that there is an overwhelming trail of empirical evidence of the woeful neglect as well as ineptitude of successive governments at drawing up master plans or failing to execute it (where one exist) to meet the needs of the populace. As a result of this many young people believe the only way to better themselves is to travel abroad-by any means possible (by all means necessary).
According to investigative reporting some pay decent (copious, large) sums of moneyfor this debacle called exploratory experience- Money that could have been used to set businesses. Some quit jobs, good paying jobs in search for El-dorado. However, they been unaware that lure of better life abroad is dampened by unquantifiable,
unimaginable risk and dangers involved plus the added fact that death might likely strike in the process.
Let us assume the plan even worked !
What is the guarantee that the Europeans nations will grant them residency (a key component of being able to work abroad)- Faith, I hear someone say ! Maybe 10-20years ago, now Europe is screaming under a lot of pressure of her own ! Did God ask these migrants to sell and pack up and head for Europe ? You see my angst with these kind of theological beliefs is that: “A PLAN WITHOUT GOD’S VOICE FROM THE BEGINNING IS BOUND TO END IN DISASTER”!
It is only in Africa that people set out on a business adventure never having a clear vision of what they want and how to get to the promise land (No feasibility study).
So our government and leaders have failed us and these problems didn’t start overnight. This now leaves the spotlight on us the individuals. John F. Kennedy penned these famous words: Ask not what your country can do for you—ask what you can do for your country.
Is it not the same Africa that we are hearing and seeing young people putting together business ideas that are thriving tremendously, contributing to the economy in fashion, entertainment, creative arts, media, sports, businesses and even engineering to name but a few.
The day we allowed greed, selfishness, self-centredness to be the fulcrum on which every home in our society is balanced on, that was the day we began to waste the bright lives of our young nationals. Until our mindset of get rich quick is changed, we will keep piercing ourselves with…. Ask those Africans resident in Europe, if they had a choice; they will all want to return home in a flash (not all that glitters is gold – trust me friend).
On a last note, I heard that as national governments and philanthropist are sending planes to repatriate their citizens, some people are still heading into Libya, hoping to get to Europe. Hmm !
# But those who desire to be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and harmful lusts which drown men in destruction and perdition. (1 Timothy
6:9)
Good morning my family of friends.
(Apologies for being political this morning).
Hallelujah! Jehovah sees, Jehovah knows….
Still singing songs of victory.
